"AI marketing agency" covers everything from a freelancer with a chatbot subscription to an agency building follow-up, email and reporting systems inside your own accounts. Prices vary as widely. Here's what published pricing shows, what you should get for it, what the tools cost if you do it yourself, and the red flags in a quote.

The short answer
  • Setup projects: mostly $1,500-$5,000 for a small business.
  • Monthly retainers: mostly $500-$1,500.
  • The tools are usually extra: $40-$150 a month for a typical small-business stack.
  • Pay for systems built in your accounts, checked by a person, with a handover guide. Not for access to AI.
  • Walk away from quotes that build everything in the agency's accounts.

The subscriptions are the cheap part. What you pay for in an agency is the connecting, the writing, the checking and the fixing: making sure every new lead gets an answer in seconds, at any hour, and that the answer sounds like you. Our lead follow-up build note shows what that looks like in practice, and the checklist we hold any setup against.

What a fair price should include

In the quote, look for
  • Built in your accounts. Your email platform, your CRM, your automation tool. If you leave, the systems stay.
  • A voice guide. Built from your own emails, posts and sales pages, so drafts don't read like AI.
  • A person checking the output. Named, before anything reaches a customer.
  • Testing. Real sign-ups, test leads and test purchases, end to end, before launch.
  • Tracking. Sales and bookings reported back to your ad accounts, so you can see what the systems earn.
  • A handover guide. What was built, where it lives, and how to change it.

Red flags in a quote

Be careful with
  • Systems built in the agency's own accounts, or a platform you can only use while you pay them.
  • Tool subscriptions resold at a markup, with no way to see the real price.
  • Guaranteed results. Nobody can promise what a new email sequence or a chatbot will earn.
  • "AI content" priced per post, with no one responsible for whether it's accurate.
  • No mention of your data: what goes into AI tools, and where it's stored.

What we charge

Our AI marketing automation setups are a fixed price, agreed in writing before we start: from $1,200, with most running $1,200-$4,000, depending on how many systems and tools are involved. Monthly running is optional, from $500/mo, month-to-month. Software subscriptions and ad spend are separate, and every system is built in your accounts. The six systems are on our AI marketing automation page, and how we use AI explains who checks what. For coaches, how fast to follow up a lead shows the follow-up piece in detail.

Questions people ask

How much does an AI marketing agency charge?

Published pricing for small businesses mostly runs $1,500-$5,000 for a setup project and $500-$1,500 a month for ongoing work, with the software paid on top. Our setups start at $1,200, most run $1,200-$4,000, and optional monthly running starts at $500/mo.

What does an AI automation setup usually include?

A discovery call, the systems built in your own accounts, a voice guide so drafts sound like you, testing with real sign-ups or purchases, and a handover guide. If any of those is missing from a quote, ask why.

Are the AI tools included in the price?

Usually not. Expect to pay for your own email platform, CRM, automation tool and AI subscriptions. Keep them in your name, so the systems keep running if you stop working with the agency.

Is it cheaper to do AI marketing yourself?

In cash, yes: the tools cost $40-$150 a month. The real cost is the hours it takes to connect them, write the prompts, check every output and fix what breaks. Pay for help when those hours are worth more than the fee.

Should an AI agency cost less than a regular agency?

Sometimes. Systems that run on their own take fewer hours each month, so ongoing fees can be lower. Setup isn't cheaper, because the work is in the groundwork: your voice, your data and the connections between tools.

When is it not worth paying for?

When the business hasn't made its first sales yet, because there's nothing to follow up and no proven offer to automate. We're also not the right fit if you want content volume for its own sake.
