Angi, the company behind the Angi, Angie's List and HomeAdvisor brands, sells contractors leads: homeowners who've asked for help with a job. Whether that's worth it comes down to the terms, and the terms are public. We read Angi's pro agreement, its help center and its SEC filings, plus Thumbtack's and Yelp's own pages, so you can see how each charges, who else gets the customer, and how to work out whether it pays for your business.
- Angi charges per lead, whether or not you win the job, and matches each request with up to five pros.
- Lead prices vary by task, location and demand. Angi publishes no price list.
- Credits cover bad phone numbers and wrong areas, not homeowners who are shopping around or hired someone else.
- Subscriptions renew automatically, can rise up to 10% a term, and may carry an early termination fee.
- It can pay if you call within minutes and track cost per booked job. Your own ads cost more to get right, but the leads are only yours.
How Angi charges pros
Angi's pro agreement offers three ways to pay: a subscription, per lead, or a bundle of leads. On pay per lead, you set a monthly budget and Angi matches you with homeowners up to that amount, and one more lead can tip you slightly over it. Opportunities, which are projects you choose to show interest in, are charged in addition to your monthly budget. Angi's help center is plain about the rest: lead prices vary with the task, the homeowner's location and demand for the work, and you're charged whether or not you open or respond to a lead.
Two things have changed recently. Angi stopped selling its legacy fixed-price ads product in early 2025 and moved those pros onto subscriptions, according to its 2025 annual report. And since January 2025, homeowners mostly choose which pros they connect with, instead of being matched automatically. HomeAdvisor hasn't disappeared: Angi says it still runs the HomeAdvisor brand, and the pro contract itself is with HomeAdvisor Inc., doing business as Angi Pro.
Who else gets the lead
Angi says each project request is matched with no more than five pros. The agreement adds that you may also be competing with Angi's own pre-priced service and with pros who aren't Angi approved. That's why speed matters so much on any lead marketplace. Angi itself says the majority of closed leads are won by the first pro to contact the homeowner, and that calling within 15 minutes more than doubles your chance of connecting. Angi doesn't publish the data behind either claim.
When you get a credit, and when you don't
| Situation | Credit? | Angi's rule |
|---|---|---|
| Phone number disconnected or not the homeowner's | Eligible | Invalid contact info |
| Job outside the ZIP codes in your profile | Eligible | Wrong location |
| Work you don't offer | Eligible | Service mismatch |
| Homeowner never answers | Not eligible | Listed as ineligible |
| Homeowner hired another pro first | Not eligible | Listed as ineligible |
| Homeowner is still collecting quotes | Not eligible | The shopping phase |
| You quoted and lost | Not eligible | Listed as ineligible |
| Any lead on an annual subscription | No credits | You can report it, but no credit is offered |

To qualify at all, the lead must be under 45 days old, you should have tried to call within 24 hours, and your account must be in good standing. Credits go toward future leads and expire after six months. Separately, the agreement says disputes about charges must be made in writing within 30 days, or they're final.
Contract terms worth reading
- Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew for another term unless you give notice before it starts.
- Price rises. Angi may raise the subscription fee by up to 10% over the previous term.
- Early termination fee. If your contract includes one, it applies when you leave early. The amount is in your own contract, not the public terms.
- No refunds on exit. On termination you aren't entitled to a refund of fees paid, including prepayments.
- Angi can end it. Angi can suspend or terminate the agreement at any time, for any reason or none.
- Reviews stay with Angi. Ratings and reviews published on Angi belong to Angi, and you can't reuse them elsewhere.
Thumbtack and Yelp, side by side
| Platform | How you pay | Who else can get the customer |
|---|---|---|
| Angi | Per lead, subscription or bundle, at prices Angi sets | Up to five pros per request |
| Thumbtack | Per lead at an exact price you set, within a weekly budget | Customers can contact up to five pros in the first four hours, then more |
| Yelp Ads | Per click, priced by auction. A quote request counts as a click | Quote requests can be sent to several businesses |
| Yelp business page | Free | Customers can message or request quotes from you directly |

Thumbtack's refunds are at its sole discretion and go to your Thumbtack balance unless you ask otherwise. Yelp's pricing page lists Yelp Ads from $150 a month, with minimum budgets subject to change. Yelp's terms also warn that third parties may generate clicks that affect what you pay. If you're in the UK, none of this applies directly: Thumbtack is for US users, Yelp only sells advertising in the US and Canada, and Angi Inc.'s UK marketplace is a separate business, MyBuilder.
How to tell if it pays
Lead counts don't tell you anything. Cost per booked job does. Track every lead for a month, then do the arithmetic. With made-up numbers: if you spend $1,000 on leads and book 4 jobs, each job cost you $250 to win. If a typical job leaves you $1,500 in gross profit, that's worth paying. If it leaves $300, it isn't.
Log every lead
Date, platform, job type and price paid. A spreadsheet is fine, or a CRM if you already use one.
Record what happened
Reached or not, quoted or not, booked or lost, and the job's value.
Note your response time
Minutes from lead to first call. If it's often hours, fix that before judging the platform.
Work out cost per booked job
Total spend divided by jobs booked, by platform and by job type.
Compare with gross profit per job
Keep what pays, drop what doesn't, and check again next quarter.
Shared leads or your own
Angi's annual report says it finds homeowners mainly through digital marketing, including search engine marketing and social media. You can buy the same kind of attention directly. With your own Facebook ads or Google Ads, a homeowner who fills in your form or calls your number has contacted you alone, the reviews you earn go on your own Google profile, and the contact details sit in your own records.
Your own ads aren't automatically cheaper. LocalIQ's 2026 benchmarks put the average home improvement lead at $42.95 on Facebook and $90.92 on Google search, and those are leads, not booked jobs. You also carry the cost of testing, and you still have to answer fast. The difference is that the work builds something you keep. For choosing between the two platforms, see Google Ads vs Facebook ads. And the free option comes first either way: a complete Google Business Profile, covered in why a business doesn't show on Google Maps.
When Angi makes sense
- A new business with no reviews, website or ad history yet.
- Jobs large enough that one win pays for many unconverted leads.
- A team that answers every lead within minutes, including evenings.
- Owners who track cost per booked job and are willing to stop when it doesn't pay.
- Thin-margin jobs, where five-way competition pushes quotes too low.
- Businesses that can't call back quickly. Why leads stop answering covers what happens next.
- Anyone who can't leave easily. Read the renewal and termination terms before signing.
Questions people ask
Is Angi worth it for contractors?
It can be, if your jobs are big enough that one win covers many leads, you call every lead within minutes, and you track cost per booked job. It tends not to be if your margins are thin, you can't answer quickly, or you're locked into a subscription that's hard to leave.
How much do Angi leads cost?
Angi doesn't publish a price list. Its help center says lead prices vary by task, homeowner location and demand for the work. You set a monthly budget, and one more lead can take you slightly over it. Opportunities you choose to accept are charged on top of the budget.
Do you pay for Angi leads if you don't get the job?
Yes. Angi's pro agreement says you pay for the leads you receive even if you don't win the job, and its help center says you're charged whether or not you open or respond to a lead.
How many contractors get the same Angi lead?
Up to five. Angi says each time a homeowner submits a project request, it matches them with no more than five pros. Since January 2025, homeowners mostly choose which pros they connect with.
Can you get a credit for a bad Angi lead?
Sometimes. Angi offers credits for invalid contact details, jobs outside your ZIP codes, services you don't offer, duplicate charges within 45 days, and leads charged while paused. You must have called within 24 hours and ask within 45 days. There are no credits for annual subscribers, and credits expire after six months.
Is HomeAdvisor the same as Angi?
Same company. Angi Inc. says it still operates several brands, including Angi, Angie's List and HomeAdvisor, and the pro agreement is with HomeAdvisor Inc., doing business as Angi Pro.
How do I cancel Angi?
Through Angi's Customer Care team by phone. If your contract includes an early termination fee, it applies. If you cancel a subscription, it runs to the end of the current term, with no refund for that term.
Is Thumbtack better than Angi for contractors?
It works differently. On Thumbtack you set the exact price you'll pay per lead and a weekly budget, and customers can contact up to five pros in the first four hours. Refunds are at Thumbtack's discretion and go to your Thumbtack balance by default. Thumbtack is US only.
Is Yelp advertising worth it for contractors?
Start with the free Yelp business page. Yelp Ads are priced per click by auction, and Yelp's terms count a quote request as a click. Quote requests can go to several businesses at once. Yelp only sells advertising in the US and Canada.
Can UK tradespeople use Angi?
Not under the Angi name. Angi Inc.'s UK marketplace is MyBuilder, which works differently. Thumbtack is for the US only, and Yelp doesn't sell advertising in the UK.
