You own the stack.
All of it.

WooCommerce gives you something hosted platforms never will - complete control, no transaction fees, and code you own outright. It also hands you responsibility for hosting, security and updates that Shopify quietly absorbs. Run properly that trade is worth making. Run carelessly it is where stores go to get slow.

What does your store
need doing?

A new build, a store buckling on shared hosting, and an install with forty plugins nobody dares update are different problems with different fixes. Find which one you are - that's what we scope.

New Builds

Built on a foundation that holds

Hosting chosen for what you actually sell, a theme that isn't a page-builder wrapped around a page-builder, and only the plugins that earn their place. Most WooCommerce performance problems are decisions made in week one, not traffic problems in year two.

Performance

Hosting, caching, database

Object caching, query optimization and a database that hasn't silently bloated with expired transients and orphaned metadata. WooCommerce slows down in specific, diagnosable ways at catalogue and order scale, and they are fixable once measured.

Security & Updates

The part you actually own

Staging environment, tested update routine, hardened configuration and real backups you have restored at least once. On WooCommerce this is genuinely your responsibility, and "we'll update later" is how stores get compromised.

Migrations

To WooCommerce, or away from it

Both directions, honestly assessed. Sometimes the right answer is moving to Shopify and we will say so. Where WooCommerce is right, we plan redirects before anything moves so you keep the rankings you spent years earning.

Your plugins aren't broken.
Your foundation is.

Every WooCommerce owner we talk to says a version of the same thing: "it was fine, and then it got slow." It rarely happened suddenly. Here's what's usually underneath - and what a properly built WooCommerce store does instead.

What's holding the store back

  • A store doing real revenue on shared hosting built for brochure sites
  • Forty plugins, several abandoned by their developers years ago
  • A page builder rendering every product page, adding weight nobody asked for
  • No staging site, so updates are applied live and hoped over
  • Updates deferred for months because the last one broke checkout
  • A database heavy with expired transients, orphaned metadata and old order logs
  • No object cache, so every page load re-runs the same expensive queries
  • Backups that exist in principle and have never once been restored

What we build instead

  • Hosting sized to your catalogue, order volume and traffic pattern
  • A plugin audit that removes what is abandoned, duplicated or unused
  • Object caching and query optimization, measured against real page timings
  • A staging environment with a tested, repeatable update routine
  • Database maintenance that keeps transients and orphaned metadata under control
  • Hardened configuration, sensible file permissions and monitoring that alerts
  • Backups verified by actually restoring them, not by a green tick in a dashboard
  • Documentation, so updates stop being an event people avoid

Our old site was clunky and our ads were bleeding cash. Their team stepped in, rebuilt everything, and suddenly shoppers could buy without any fuss. They explain the numbers in plain language and always lay out the next move. First agency that's truly felt like part of our crew.

They built our Shopify store from sketch to polish, and the ads keep bringing in people who actually appreciate the product. Fast, thoughtful, no guessing games. For a brand that sweats the small stuff, having a partner who gets that is a big deal.

Six systems.
One solid store.

This is the exact build order for every WooCommerce engagement we take on - whether it's a launch, a rescue or a migration. Skip any one of these and the rest stops working.

01 / 06
Infrastructure & Performance Audit
We measure the actual stack - hosting response times, PHP version, database size and composition, slow queries, and what each plugin costs on page load. WooCommerce problems are diagnosable in a way that vague advice about caching plugins never addresses.
Week 1
02 / 06
Hosting & Environment
Hosting matched to what you sell, with staging and production separated properly and deployment that does not involve editing files over FTP. Getting this right first is what makes everything after it safe to do.
Week 1-2
03 / 06
Plugin Rationalisation
Every plugin assessed on whether it is maintained, whether it duplicates another, and what it costs on page load. Abandoned plugins are a security exposure as much as a performance one, and most stores are carrying several.
Week 2
04 / 06
Build or Rebuild
Theme and functionality built cleanly, with custom code in a child theme or a small plugin rather than edited into core files. Where a page builder is genuinely the right tool we will use it, and where it is costing you we will say so.
Week 2-6
05 / 06
Security, Backups & Updates
Hardened configuration, monitoring, and a tested update routine including a restore you have actually watched work. This is the part hosted platforms do for you and WooCommerce does not, which is precisely why it gets skipped.
Week 4-5
06 / 06
Launch & Maintain
Launch with redirects verified and performance re-measured against the baseline. Then either a documented handover or ongoing maintenance - but never the situation where updates are nobody's job.
Launch + ongoing

Here's exactly what you get.

No mystery, no "we'll get back to you." Every stage below ends with something delivered - and nothing is ever tested on your live store.

Day 0-1

Strategy call & access

A 30-minute call to work out whether this is a build, a rescue or a migration, what has already been tried, and what is currently breaking. Hosting, WordPress and analytics access requested within 24 hours.

- You receive: Call recap + scoping notes
Day 2-7

Infrastructure audit

Hosting benchmarked, database size and composition analysed, slow queries identified, plugin stack priced in page weight and risk, security posture reviewed. This stage alone usually explains the slowness.

- You receive: Technical audit + written build plan
Week 2-6

Build on staging

Everything built and reviewed on staging. Plugin removals tested before they touch production, updates applied in a controlled order, performance measured at each step against the baseline.

- You receive: Staging link + weekly build updates
Launch

Launch & harden

Redirects verified, performance re-measured, backups restored once to prove they work, and a documented update routine handed over so maintenance stops being an event people avoid.

- You receive: Launch report + maintenance runbook

We get asked these every week.

Our WooCommerce store got slow. What causes that?

Usually a combination, and it is diagnosable rather than mysterious. Hosting that was fine for a brochure site struggles with WooCommerce's uncached, query-heavy pages. The database accumulates expired transients and orphaned metadata over years. Plugins add queries on every page load. And page builders render product pages far more expensively than a purpose-built template. The audit measures each so you fix the one that actually matters.

WooCommerce or Shopify - which should we be on?

Depends on what you value. Shopify absorbs hosting, security and updates and charges transaction fees for the privilege; WooCommerce hands you complete control, no transaction fees and code you own, along with the responsibility for keeping it running. If you have unusual requirements, content-heavy needs, or you object to platform fees at volume, WooCommerce earns its keep. If you would rather never think about a server, Shopify is the honest answer and we will say so.

How many plugins is too many?

The count matters less than what they are. One abandoned plugin running unmaintained code is worse than fifteen well-maintained ones. We audit for whether each is actively maintained, whether it duplicates another, and what it costs on page load. Abandoned plugins are a security exposure first and a performance problem second.

We're scared to update. What do we do?

That fear is rational if you have no staging environment - and it is also the most dangerous position to be in, because deferred updates are how WordPress stores get compromised. The fix is a staging site, a tested update order, and a backup you have actually restored. Once updates are a routine rather than an event, the fear goes away because the risk genuinely has.

What hosting should we be on?

Something sized for WooCommerce rather than for a blog. What matters is PHP workers, a real object cache, and a database that isn't sharing resources with hundreds of other sites. We will recommend based on your catalogue size, order volume and traffic pattern rather than name one host for everybody, and we have no affiliate arrangements to skew that.

Can you migrate us from Shopify to WooCommerce?

Yes, and we will ask why first. Wanting to escape transaction fees at volume, or needing control that Shopify does not offer, are good reasons. Frustration with a single limitation usually is not, because you are trading it for hosting and security responsibilities you do not currently carry. Where the move is right, redirects get planned before anything moves.

Is WooCommerce secure?

As secure as you keep it, which is the honest answer and the whole trade-off. Core WordPress and WooCommerce are actively maintained; the exposure comes from outdated plugins, weak hosting configuration and deferred updates. A hardened, maintained WooCommerce store is not a meaningfully riskier place to take payments than a hosted platform - a neglected one absolutely is.

Will it handle a large catalogue?

Yes, with the right infrastructure. WooCommerce slows at scale in specific ways - product meta queries, variation handling, admin order screens - and each has known solutions. Where it needs help, we implement the right caching and query strategy rather than telling you to replatform.

How long does a build take?

A straightforward build is typically three to five weeks. A rescue depends on the audit - sometimes the highest-value work is hosting and plugin removals inside a week. Migrations run four to eight weeks depending on catalogue size and how much redirect mapping is involved.

Do you offer ongoing maintenance?

Yes, and for WooCommerce we recommend it more strongly than we would for a hosted platform, because updates and backups genuinely are your responsibility here. If you would rather handle it internally, we will build the runbook and train your team - that is a perfectly good outcome and we will not pretend otherwise.

Do you handle ads and SEO too?

We do, and there is a real advantage in the same people handling the build and the acquisition - tracking gets installed correctly first time, and page speed gets treated as a media cost rather than a developer preference. You can also hire us for the build alone.

What if we're not the right fit?

We will tell you on the call. We turn down work that is not a fit - most often when a store would genuinely be better served on a hosted platform, in which case we will say so even though it means less work for us. Either way you will leave the call knowing what to do next.

What happens on the strategy call?

30 minutes. We look at your store, your hosting and your plugin stack, tell you what is actually causing the problem you called about, and roughly what it would cost to fix. If we are a fit, we scope it. If not, no hard feelings - no follow-up sequence, no pressure.

Let's turn your browsers into buyers.

30 minutes. We'll look at your store, your hosting and your plugin stack - then tell you exactly what we'd do and roughly what it would cost. Pick a time.
